I'm looking forward to working with a wonderful team and you the public to fight and raise awareness of RMC and other rare subtype renal cancers.
The Ricky Casey Trust was founded in 2020 to advance knowledge, education and research into RMC and rare renal cancers — and to support the families affected by them.

I'm looking forward to working with a wonderful team and you the public to fight and raise awareness of RMC and other rare subtype renal cancers.

I am Ricky's older brother, like most siblings we looked out for each other. However this one occasion I was unable to physically help. I am determined to make sure his name and legacy live on. The trust will hopefully do that by raising awareness and save lives.

I had no hesitation when asked by Nicola to become a trustee of the charity. Having been both a teammate and an opponent of Ricky for many years, I can only hope I show the same drive and determination that Ricky had while fighting his short battle of RMC (Renal Medullary Carcinoma).

I am a Consultant Medical Oncologist working at the Christie Hospital in Manchester since October 2016. I specialise in the treatment of kidney and stomach cancers, and met Ricky following his diagnosis of RMC in 2018. Ricky received chemotherapy under my care to try and control his cancer, and I continued to review him until his final illness and subsequent death in May 2019. Looking after Ricky highlighted to me the high unmet need that still exists for patients with RMC. There is an urgent need to improve education regarding 'sickle cell trait' status and its associated risks including RMC. More importantly, the oncological community need to help develop and fund more effective treatments to help control this rare, aggressive type of kidney cancer. For this reason, I was delighted when Nicola asked me to get involved as a Trustee of the Ricky Casey Trust.

Nicola is a close friend, and when she asked me to become a trustee of The Ricky Casey Trust, I felt honoured to be involved. Although I never met Ricky personally, the stories shared by Nicola and his loved ones have shown me what a remarkable man he was. I am proud to support the Trust's mission and help raise awareness of Renal Medullary Carcinoma in his memory.

After being a good friend of Ricky for over 25 years I am honoured to become a trustee for the charity set up in his name. Working with the charity I hope we can fight and support this terrible disease and help to save people from suffering like Rick did. In addition this charity keeps Rick's name alive and leaves a legacy that is a fitting tribute to someone who was an unbelievable man. 'Strength & Honour'.

“I am honoured to be a patron of The Ricky Casey Trust. Ricky was an outstanding human being — full of life, energy and enthusiasm. He was a brilliant man. I am delighted to support the raising of awareness and funds; and the education, knowledge and research of renal cancers in the UK. Ricky would be very proud to know that a Trust in his name will support and help those affected by this condition. Having been a firefighter himself, it is fitting that this Trust will also support firefighters who have fallen under hard times too. Ricky was a champion and his legacy will be preserved by this Trust for years to come.”

“I was honoured and delighted when Nicola asked me to be a patron for the Ricky Casey Trust. Cancer is such a terrible disease. It's a wonderful thing that the trust has been set up in Ricky's memory to help others. I'm sure he would be proud. To see that the trust will be raising awareness in such a rare cancer that Ricky had, as well as research and educate clinicians in all renal cancers, I'm happy to support.”

“I'm Natalie Morris, author, journalist and daughter of Tony Morris who we sadly lost to kidney cancer in August 2020. I feel privileged to be involved with this fantastic charity and to have the opportunity to do my bit to raise awareness and vital funds for kidney cancer and other rare renal cancers.”

“It was a huge honour when Nicola invited me to become a patron of The Ricky Casey Trust. The trust carries a story of a man in Ricky Casey, who had all the traits of a community hero. In symbolic contrast, I carry a 'trait', the Haemoglobin C trait, a significant part of the narrative that the Trust seeks to tell through Ricky's Story. As a professional sportsman I am fortunate to be surrounded by great people all doing what they can for greater social good. This trust is a wonderful example of that, it is in fact a small community with a really important message and I am driven to become part of the voice.”
